Laura St. Onge

A Pittsburgh native

Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art Education and a minor in Art History from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, July of 2012

Art Education Certification and Credentials from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, May of 2013. I have been working as a private tutor for students aging 8 - 75 for Allegheny County and Beaver County areas.

In studying the broad range of materials used in traditional drawing, Laura familiarizes herself with the basic techniques within the subject. She sees how color has beautiful values that we can naturally view. She explores the possibilities color can produce using traditional media; such as colored pencil, oil and chalk pastel, crayon, ink, and watercolor. The process begins with gestural lines in a basic neutral color and move through the shadows, highlights, and mid-tones. To add more of an effect, She adds and subtracts by erasing and blending in layers until she has achieved her desired look.

Laura is currently working on two series: North American Aviary portraits and Landscapes using pan pastel, pastel sticks and pastel pencils. You can view her work and process on Instagram, Facebook, and Behanced.

"Painting isn't just daydreaming, it is primarily a manual skill, and one has to be a good workman." - Renoir
